Systems Engineer/Support

Essential Purpose of Position

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, installation and management of the systems, server and networking environment for all Harlem Furniture, LLC systems including data/telecommunications equipment. This role implements preventative measures such as systems monitoring, alerting, fault tolerance, disaster recovery and standardization, which aim to minimize system downtime and customer impact. The Systems Engineer position is responsible for providing day-to-day support ensuring that all servers and applications are highly available and operating at peak performance on a 7x24 basis.

 

Job Related Responsibilities

 

1. Provides day to day production support of the Windows and Unix server environment including application, hardware and operating system support in a production environment

2. Provides 7x24 rotating on-call support

3. Troubleshoots network hardware/software issues and user software/hardware problems

4. Assists in analyzing Help Desk activity and makes recommendations for changes in Help Desk procedures and systems

5. Responsible for systems level access through network and operating system controls. This includes access through VLANs, VPN, firewall ACL's, web interfaces and Active Directory

6. Works with peers to troubleshoot complex problems that impact our organization’s ability to perform required business functions as they relate to IT infrastructure

7. Designs, installs, upgrades, and administers server, desktop and network hardware and components, including telecommunications equipment (e.g., disk storage, processors, memory, system OS, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, PBX’s, etc.)

8. Utilizing industry standard technologies to insure the integrity of recoverability of servers and applications; backups, patch installations, performance monitoring etc.

9.  Working with peers to install updates, patches, version upgrades as required.

10. Implementing vulnerability and operating system patches to insure compliance and system integrity

11. Applying industry leading technology to maintain and install system software in order to maintain efficient operations

12. Researches and evaluates systems management tools

13. Implements systems monitoring tools which can predict systems issues before they happen

14. Assists with new projects as required performing system analysis translating business requirements into technical solutions

15. Assists in developing and implementing disaster recovery procedures

16. Develops strategies to ensure optimal performance of Harlem’s network infrastructure, which allow employees to  have optimal use of their computers with minimal downtime

17. Develops and maintains documentation of the systems infrastructure by means of drawings, spreadsheets, and documents as needed 

18. Performs other duties as requested



 
Qualifications
Experience with Linux, Solaris, Windows Server platforms

4-6 + years experience with Windows operating systems, directory services, email and internet information services. Prefer the following experience:

·4 years experience supporting an enterprise Windows 2000 / 2003 infrastructure.

· 4 years experience supporting an Enterprise Active Directory (2000 / 2003 environment

· 4 years experience supporting an enterprise Windows 2003 DNS infrastructure

· 4 years experience identifying performance bottlenecks with Windows 2000 / 2003 Server

· 2 years experience supporting Microsoft Internet Information Server4+ years experience in computer hardware, system software, data communications, computer facility, helpdesk, development and telecommunications Knowledge of Windows scripting, automated software deployment, and group policies 3+ years configuring and maintaining Cisco Routers, Switches, ASA firewalls 1-2 years UNIX administration 1-2 years MS SQL administration Knowledge of the data/telecommunications industry and carrier involvement (i.e. AT&T, etc.) Ability to manage vendors Knowledge of data/telecommunications network design, VOIP, implementation, planning and disaster recovery Advanced knowledge of network environments, TCP/IP, and routing protocols Experience working in a customer focused I.T. environment Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
