The System Engineer position is responsible for ensuring that all servers and applications are highly available and operating at peak performance on a 7x24 basis.QualificationsEssential Functions: 1. Provides day to day support of the WebSphere Application Server and MQ in development, QA and production environments.2. Works with application teams through development cycles to install code updates, implement configuration changes and debug application problems within WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere MQ.3. Assist with new projects as required performing system analysis translating application requirements into technical solutions.4. Evaluates and applies IBM software patches and upgrades as required to solve production problems or to ensure compliance and system integrity.5. Works with applications teams to troubleshoot complex problems that impact our customers ability to perform required business functions.6. Opens cases with vendors to debug complex environmental problems.7. Work with other Infrastructure teams on environmental issues impacting application performance.8. Utilize industry standard technologies to insure the integrity of recoverability of WebSphere based applications; backups, patch installations, performance monitoring etc. 9. Provide 7x24 rotating on-call supportKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Functions: " 2 years + experience in UNIX is required. AIX or HP-UX preferred. " Ability to write scripts using Shell or Perl to provide assistance in tracking or debugging " Strong research, investigation and evaluation skills. " Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team." Must be able to carry a pager as part of a 24x7 rotating on-call support team.Strong knowledge in: WebSphere Application Server (WAS)" 2 years experience in day to day support of IBM WebSphere Application Server in an enterprise environment." Expertise in WebSphere Application Server 4.0 5.x." Understanding of IBM HTTP Server software and the WebSphere plug-in." Experience defining resources within WebSphere Application Server as required for each application. Includes Datasources, MQ resources, and application specific requirements."
