The VP/GMM focuses on creating and executing both short-term and long-term merchandising strategies that fit with the overall retail brand, key customers, and company financial goals. The position is responsible for leading merchandising activities for their area and providing leadership and direction to the buying staff and the teams across the company that support their business category. This position reports directly to the SVP, Apparel. The VP/GMM also partners closely with the Inventory Management, Marketing, Finance, Store Operations, and Customer Experience teams to develop and execute their business category plans.QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEducation/TrainingBachelor s degree from a four year college or university or equivalent work experience; Master s preferredExperience8+ years related merchandising experience; a mix of buying, planning and placement responsibilities preferredPrevious experience with the apparel with experience in children s preferredPrevious experience with design processes and direct sourcingPrevious leadership experienceRole specific abilities/skillsStrong understanding of the retail industry and the merchandising processStrong financial acumen and analytic skillsProven experience meeting or exceeding plan; ability to manipulate the various levers in the merchandising process to manage the business and create positive resultsAbility to manage a large team and drive results through othersStrong communication skills through various methods and with various levels of the organizationSears is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
