Human Resource Assistant

HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT:  Human Resources

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Part-time Position usually working 20-30 hours per week. Reports directly to Human Resource Manager. Assists in maintenance of personnel policies, procedures and forms.  Supports department managers and employees regarding personnel issues and new hire procedures.  Maintains personnel records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Data entry to include new hires and issuing employee numbers.

·         Under the direction of the HR Manager assists with personnel policies, procedures and forms. 

·         Assists with employee recruitment, hiring, orientation and training; to include posting jobs and completing and maintaining new hire paperwork.

·         Establishes and maintains personnel records and reports; maintains company organization charts and employee directory.

·         Assists management with Employee Recognition and Rewards procedures.

·         Assists and maintains benefits administration documentation for health and dental insurance.

·         Performs other related duties as required or as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports directly to the Human Resource Manager.  Coordinates activities and assists all department managers and employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic office experience required.  Good communication skills and the ability to work well with people is essential.  Good leadership skills are beneficial.  Familiarity with personnel laws and regulations is helpful. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate both orally and written with mangers and co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is crucial.  Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.

Sitting for extended periods is common.  Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

No heavy lifting is expected.  Exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.  Ability to bend and move from time to time is required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.

Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems.  Ability to deal with deadline driven and high stress situations are crucial.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting.  Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer monitor and/or calculator.
