Job Summary

 

The Resident Monitor is responsible for monitoring the functional operation of the residential programs and facility in accordance with Volunteers of America policies and procedures.

 

Credentials, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

 

§ A high school diploma and corrections background required.

§ Certification in First Aid and CPR.

§ Strong communication skills. Bilingual English and Spanish.

§ Good recordkeeping and leadership skills essential.

§ Possess valid driver’s license and, safe driving record and meets insurability standards.

 













 

Essential Functions

 

· Maintain operational control of the facility in the absence of senior staff.

· Employ the Officer Accountability Plan as written with thoroughness and consistency.

· Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift.

· Maintain offender sign-in/sign out log.

· Complete community accountability checks such as employment and home visits and telephone contacts.

· Control contraband in facility through general observation and room searches.

· Insure facility cleanliness and monitor offender work and extra duty assignments.

· Observe offender behavior and report abnormal behavior in a manner consistent with the situation.

· Monitor offender medications.

· Collect urine and breathe samples in accordance with Volunteers of America procedures.

· Complete required documentation such as chain of custody forms.

· Manage linen collection/distribution.

· Conduct frequent tours of the facility and its grounds initiating corrective measures on safety and sanitation deficiencies.

· Monitor visitor activities.

· Insure fire and other safety protocols are carried out.

· Insure offender compliance with Volunteers of America policies and house rules.

· Inventory and secure personal possessions of absconded offenders.

· Conduct lights out and reveilles at designated times and wake clients as requested.

· Assist offenders with short-term coping and problem solving.

· Monitor operation of equipment and report malfunctions as appropriate.

· Monitor all egress and entrance points to facility and answer telephones.

· Attend staff meeting and training as directed.

 

 Additional Responsibilities

 

· Perform others duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.

 

Performance Standards

 

Ÿ Facility is operated in a safe secure and efficient manner 24 hours a day.

Ÿ Clients comply with Volunteers of America and contractor policies and procedures and programs rules.

Ÿ Clients successfully complete the program.

Ÿ  Safety of clients and staff in emergencies is assured.

 

Normal Working Hours and Conditions

· A forty-hour workweek.

· Weekend or evening as required.

· Some travel may be required.

· Some overtime may be required.
