This position is a full-time, 10-month appointment reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer in the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Start date is August 11, 2008. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by intercollegiate student-athletes. This includes emergency/ acute care, evaluation, referral, modality application, and educational counseling related to the student-athlete’s overall wellness. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for overseeing of pre-participation physical examination (PPE) screening in coordination with USM’s University Health and Counseling Services. Also, administrative functions, athletic event and practice coverage, some athletic team travel requirements, and full compliance with appropriate governing organizations. Additional responsibilities include the clinical instruction, supervision, and proficiency evaluation of athletic training majors in USM’s CAATE accredited athletic training educational program housed in the Department of Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences.
Qualifications Required: Master’s in Athletic Training or related field; Minimum of 2 years experience as an athletic trainer (clinical experience at graduate level applies); BOC certification (1 year minimum); eligible for state of Maine Athletic Training license; willingness to complete approved clinical instructor (ACI) workshop; strong interpersonal communication skills; willing to be part of a team effort.
