Engineer - Test and Start-Up

The Controls Engineer will complete assigned system analysis and software development, test and commissioning tasks for new and existing Hydro power station control systems.Our client is an industry leader today in hydropower equipment and services. Their manufacturing facility and headquarters in the US is located in York, PA. This person will plan, conduct and report on field testing assignments. Assigned tasks can be unit commissioning tests, index testing, efficiency testing, condition assessment testing, operating characteristics test, hydraulic transient studies, and troubleshooting tests. Qualifications / Experience:•Plan, execute and coordinate turbine and mechanical generator testing •Support electrical testing of generator and balance of plant (BOP) testing •Plan, coordinate and execute start-up and commissioning of turbines and generator •Plan, coordinate and execute condition assessment testing for turbine, generator and BOP •Issue test report for all types of turbine testing as well as start-up and commissioning report •Perform test results evaluation, performance calculation and check of guaranteed values •Represent the company during start-up and commissioning •Provide cost estimates and technical support for proposals •Assist with hydraulic transient analysis •Operation, maintenance, storage and calibration of test equipment •Write test procedures for turbine and mechanical generator testing •Specify and pack test equipment to perform testing •Write test report explaining findings on the executed test •Calculate turbine parameters and performance based on results for the following tests: Bump Tests, Bearing Runs, Unit synchronization, Load Rejections, Index Tests, Signature Tests, Troubleshooting Tests, Cam Optimization for Double Regulated Turbines, Absolute Efficiency Tests, •Calculate generator parameters and generator performance based on results for the following tests: Generator stator and rotor roundness measurements, Air flow rate, Generator air pressure measurements, Generator cooling water flow rate measurements, Temperature rise for stator and rotor winding stator core temperature rise o Generator balance, Start up and commissioning of stand alone turbine •Understanding and capability to perform the following generator tests: Megger, Polarization index (PI),No load saturation curve, Short circuit saturation, Wave form and deviation factor, Heat run, Load rejection, Vibration and noise. Specific Duties include but are not limited to:•Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil or Computer Engineering. •Must have hands on experience with mechanical components of hydroelectric machines.
