This individual works independently and as part of the Enterprise Architecture team, with primary responsibility to develop and evolve common technology strategy for networking, telecom, server hardware, operating systems, and server-based services (e.g., database platforms). Technology Strategy will focus on enterprise security, capacity planning, and proactive systems management and monitoring. A key aspect of this job will be to act as the liaison between Infrastructure Operations and the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure that technology implementation is consistent with the needs and standards developed for Application, Information/Data, and Integration Architecture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and maintain strategy, architecture, models, road maps and policies for:

Directory and Security Services, including user and role-based security, single sign-on, information access, network access
Systems Management and Monitoring, including proactive and predictive system health, reactive alerts, automated system recovery
Scalability and Capacity planning for storage, user and transaction volumes, local and wide-area network bandwidth, failover and redundancy
Network and application acceleration services, including proxies, encryption, XML transformation and processing, protocol gateways
Operating Systems and core Services, including version standards, upgrade and patch cycles, interoperability
Review and understand current standards and policies for Security, Servers, Networking, Operating Systems and Services as a basis for any recommended revision, updates or replacement

Evaluate and select technology platforms, (hardware and/or software solutions, and productivity tools, network appliances) to support architecture and strategies

Develop prototypes, simulations, and tests to evaluate effectiveness, scalability and performance of candidate technology

Define and document best practices and standards for implementation of selected technologies, including mentoring and training operation engineers and conducting implementation

Schedule, scope and conduct internal reviews and audits; facilitate audits by external partners and customers

Develop policies and procedures for configuration management and change management activities including:

Software deployment that will affect infrastructure, security or network configuration
Exception review, approval or rejection, escalation or appeal
Coordination, training or other communication with Helpdesk for training related to changes in infrastructure or policies
Coordination or communication with Configuration Management team for any changes related to production environments, deployment standards or policies as they affect production software deployment
Interface with Enterprise Architecture, Development and Operations teams to understand effectiveness of current technology solutions and apply needs to ongoing evolution of technology standards

Work with business users to understand emerging and unmet technology requirements; apply knowledge of emerging technologies to drive product development

Other duties may be assigned.

Required Skills
Experience in IT Operations including some combination of network configuration and management, server configuration and operation, storage management, performance and scalability engineering
Operations architecture and/or security architecture
Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, exposure to VMWare
Working knowledge of network devices and network architecture
Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server database platforms, especially O/S, hardware, and storage configuration and tuning
Working knowledge of network storage and SAN technology
Prior experience with Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies and implementations
Prior experience with product selection and evaluation, build vs. buy
Required Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Degree in Computer Science or equivalent job experience
8 + years experience in IT
5 + year experience in IT Operations including some combination of network configuration and management, server configuration and operation, storage management, performance and scalability engineering
2 + years of operations architecture and/or security architecture
