Process Automation Engineer/Specialist

The Process Automation Engineer/Specialist position will comprise of several components related to process control and plant automation. These components include all aspects related to process plant automation and controls from system specification, installation, and application development. Ideal candidates would have more than 5 years experience with one or more of the following skills.

The ability to understand and follow written standards and develop process applications based upon those standards. The ideal candidate would have experience with writing and developing standards for process control systems or applications.

The candidate should have the ability to take direction from several business units within a company including project management teams, engineering and plant management. The ability to communicate and track project work for various levels of plant personnel will be essential.

The ideal candidate should be able to work in a team environment, as well as work independently as a project requires. The candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve process control issues and support colleagues at other plant locations with similar issues.

Programming and application experience with a Distributed Control System, with preference to the Novatech D/3 process control system. The candidate must be able to develop applications that have personal and process safety as part of the overall control strategy for a process.

The ideal candidate will have experience with or the ability to train others in specialized areas of process controls. This training may be at various operations and skill levels within the company. The ability to develop ideas and communicate effectively will be essential.

Experience with programming and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers with emphasis on Rockwell platform controllers.

Experience or equivalent knowledge with I/O systems and I/O connectivity to DCS and PLC systems.

Experience or equivalent knowledge of instrumentation and control wiring installation and wiring systems

Experience or equivalent knowledge related to motor control center wiring, connectivity, and control from a distributed control system or programmable log controller.

Experience or equivalent knowledge with personal computers, servers, networking equipment, and network wiring as it relates to industrial process controls.

Physical Requirements
This position will require extended periods of sitting and keyboard operation. System outage windows will require occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work. Occasional air travel may be required. Candidates must be willing and able to spend time in plant areas (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and move through close spaces) working hands-on with the automation systems and equipment. Candidates must be capable of working in extreme temperatures.

Future Assignments
With continued training and experience, a Process Automation Engineer/Specialist will be able to advance into higher levels of process automation or electrical engineering.

Education
Candidates must possess a 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
