Hold a Master's or higher degree in nursing from an accredited program. Certification as a nurse practitioner in designated area of practice by a national certifying organization; experience with treating patient with mental illness required. Establishes a practice agreement with a collaborating physician working in the facility. Provide evidence of prescriptive privilege accomplishment, as will as a DEA number. Provide documentation within six months of employment indicating no record of child abuse, neglect and/or maltreatment through NYS Central Register. Required to participate with on call rotation. Please review job description for complete requirements.Department: MHU Hospital has a 22-bed inpatient adult Mental Health Unit, which admits patients age 16 and up, on both voluntary and involuntary legal status. We admit all types of acute psychiatric problems from depression with suicidal ideation to psychotic disorders. We practice a modified primary care type of assignment. RN's oversee and coordinate the care for an average caseload of 4-5 patients. Patients also have a Mental Health Clinician coordinating their discharge planning. RN's also function as group leaders/facilitators for a variety of therapeutic groups, which augment the psychopharmacology interventions. Per diems and part time staff function as relief counselors for our full time RN's. Our programming is undergoing augmentation; we are moving toward a concurrent group format, where patients can choose from among several groups. A commonly asked question is whether it is difficult to obtain consults from physicians in case of a medical problem: the answer is that it is not a problem.
