Structural Engineers- Staff and Senior Positions

Qualifications:

§ M.S. or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering.

§ Must be a Registered Professional Engineer or be capable of becoming within 1 year.

§ Minimum 5 years experience in structural design of buildings.

§ Preferred experience in a design office setting; construction site work a plus.

§ Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to work well with clients.

§ Demonstrated ability to work independently and organize work load.

Previous experience in building investigations and failures a plus.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

This job involves investigation, analysis and testing of building structural systems and structural failures. Types of construction include commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial.  Work will include hands‑on technical investigations of various systems such as steel, reinforced concrete, pre-cast concrete, masonry, wood/timber, and foundations. Also includes pre-engineered systems such as wood trusses, steel joists, manufactured housing, industrial buildings, and proprietary products/systems. 

 

Projects generally consist of cause and origin investigations of collapses, foundation settlements, excessive deflections, structural member damage, problems, water intrusions, or damages stemming from natural events or accidents.  Work tasks include inspection of as-built conditions, review of design drawings and specifications, assessment of proprietary products, calculations as required, research of relevant codes and standards, and knowledge of construction trade practice.  Deliverable work product typically consists of written and oral reports, sketches, photographs, and video media.  Technical opinions may ultimately require articulation in legal proceedings such as depositions and court testimony.

 

Investigations are typically conducted in relation to insurance claims and/or litigation cases.  Position requires project management duties including agreements to perform professional services, arrangement of inspections and testing as required for projects, management of XXXXXXXX employees and Adjunct staff, control of budget and schedule considerations, and oversight of deliverable work product.  Continuous business development and involvement in the execution of long-term marketing objectives is expected, as well as participation at industry trade shows, professional organizations, and technical conferences.
