CDV Facility Engineer/Planner

JOB SUMMARY: The incumbent will be responsible for managing, planning, engineering, and coordinating the implementation of the facilities and infrastructure within the central office associated with supporting Comcast Digital Voice services. This will also include working issues associated with PSTN interconnection across internal and external facilities, switch migrations, SS7, OS/DA, and other trunking and/or network interconnection to all of our New Jersey Region CDV site locations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Analyze Sales marketing data to determine size, location, and quantity of facilities for Voice, IP, and Data services.
• Develop capital and expense budgets for respective areas of responsibility.
• Analysis of existing switch reports/data; ability to implement corrective action.
• Analysis of switch and PSTN interconnection (facilities and trunking) troubles and coordination/performing corrective action.
• Manage the implementation of new capacity associated with the call management server, media gateway, voicemail systems, and other CO functions.
• Manage the implementation of new capacity associated with the facilities and trunking for PSTN interconnection to local and long distance carriers, operator services providers, directory assistance providers, etc.
• Create, update, track, and close orders in Metasolv.
• Perform routine physical maintenance on the CO site to ensure environment is adequate as to ensure high quality equipment performance.
• Ensure supporting infrastructure is maintained, e.g., the DC Power Plant, generator, UPS, etc.
• Needs to be able to work under the general direction from senior management while being able to establish/recommend policies, processes, and procedures based on past experience.
• Define and implement process improvements and service metrics for systems and applications.
• Requires close communication and coordination of activities with Comcast CDV support groups within region engineering, technical operations, and national organizations.
• Communicate weekly status to team members and other stakeholders through conference call participation.
• Provide SME support to cross functional efforts
• 24 X 7 on-call for customer impacting issues and outage correction.

• Full working knowledge of the Nortel DMS, Cedar Point Safari and Cisco BTS switch solutions
• BA/BS in engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years work experience in a telecommunications environment required.
• Demonstrated leadership, good communication, and organizational skills
• Experience with transport equipment, IP technology, digital cross-connects.
