Chief Software Architect - Common Components

This position is part of Nokia's Services and Software unit which is the growth engine for Nokia’s business. The unit delivers new, profitable Ovi-branded services that delight consumers and enterprises, increase the value of Nokia’s devices and fundamentally change the perception of Nokia in the market. The team creates a combined device and internet experience that people fall in love with. Context, Advertising and Emerging Markets service line drives businesses based on location, maps, search and navigation with special emphasis on advertising-based business models. In addition, this service line is also responsible for the Services & Software Unit’s new business innovation and developing services for emerging markets. General Purpose
Act as the Chief Software Architect for the D&D Common Components R&D group. Provide technical leadership and guidance across a range of products and services. Interact and interface with other technical architects in the S&S organization. Serve as a technical mentor and coach to the R&D teams in the Common Components group. Assist Common Components senior management team in making solid business decisions by providing clarity on complex technical issues.



Provide significant technical leadership for specific technologies, as well as groups of technologies and products related to the critical competencies of the company. Act as BG's global authority and a final reference point in the company for technical input.

Main Responsibility Area
Solve critical technical questions/problems across a demanding, broad environment. Work as an internal consultant and be responsible for advising other senior technical experts within the same discipline and across multiple disciplines. Actively seek new opportunities and contribute key ideas to projects and programs. Contribute to different kinds of management boards. Maintain a broad view of emerging technologies and contribute in roadmap definition. Recognised expertise may be across technology areas (eg, at systems level) or depth in one technology area.

Involved with and responsible for integrating or coordination with other businesses or functions. Will include geographic coordination of functions or global functional/unit.

Decisions and actions will normally impact business, program, project, function.




Individual Portfolio
12+ years relevant experience. A recognised thought leader in web services, e-commerce, and associated technologies. An M.S. degree in technical field required. A Post graduate PhD combined with significant work experience a plus. A DBA background with experience in Oracle based products a significant plus. Understanding of security issues and protocols related to e-commerce applications, web services, and payment and billing a significant plus. Experience working in large, international companies also a plus.
