Communication Technician

CommTech 1 is an entry-level position where time in this position will be in a training environment and typically the start of the employee’s cable television career. Continued employment is contingent upon achieving required technical and safety certifications. CommTech 1 will learn routine disconnects and pre-wires for residential and business customers in accordance with Comcast procedures and practices.

·Performing requested and non-pay disconnects, adhering to Comcast procedures and safe work practices, NEC and NESC requirements, and local ordinances in order to provide requested service.
·Pre-wiring single unit dwellings in order to provide "ready hook-up" capabilities.
·Cleaning, maintaining and stocking vehicle and equipment.
·Inspecting existing ground or make new ground according to the National Electric Code (NEC) in order to protect employees, customers, and equipment from electrical shock or damage.
·Completing associated paperwork with each work order in a timely manner.
·Properly operate and maintain installation tools and equipment.
·Prove knowledge and skills of training on the job in order to prepare for transition to CommTech
·Perform other duties as requested by supervisor in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

·Ability to use basic cable installation tools and hand tools.
·Ability to perform job from high places (on poles and roofs); climb poles with proper equipment (safety belts, strap, climbers), ladders and bucket trucks, 18 to 20 feet, as determined by the system’s requirements.
·Lift and carry loads of 70 lbs or more.
·Work in confined spaces such as crawl spaces or attics.
·Work while standing 50-70% of the time.
·Perform work near power lines and electricity.
·Manipulate connectors, fasteners, and wire; use hand tools.
·Drive company vehicle in performance of duties in a safe and responsible manner.
·Work and travel in inclement weather.
·Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
·Normal work shift may include weekends.
·Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings and holidays.
·Ability to manipulate objects such as pens, keyboard and mouse.
·Exposure to moderate noise level.
·Exposure to dogs or other animals, construction areas, or the public in general, may be a concern.
- Punctual, regular and consistent attendance required.

Required Skills:
·Basic wiring experience.
·Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints.
·Knowledge of cable television products and services.
·Knowledge of basic mathematics.
·Ability to communicate with customers in a clear and straightforward manner.
·Ability to work independently.
·Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
·Ability to communicate courteously and pro-actively; able to learn customers’ short term and long term needs; see issues from customers’ position, and recommend products or service; able to promote customer focus in employees and develop partnerships with customers.
·Able to persist and finish projects despite obstacles, or redirect when necessary; able to follow instructions or take action and address opportunities with little supervision; able to take extra steps to prevent mistakes or create opportunities.
·High School Diploma or equivalent.
·Valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record.
