JOB TITLE:     Core Network Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The primary responsibility for this position is to develop the architecture and plans (and associated tasks) for the overall core IP and server network.  This position is critical to the successful delivery of nGenX’s Managed Applications and Server Products as well integrating of eMail, SharePoint, CRM, MPLS and Data Storage products.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

(1)  Working with the Systems Manager to develop the architecture and plans for the overall core IP network, customer connectivity (VPN, MPLS, PIPVC, SSL/Internet), traffic routing and management.  Must be able to develop costs, justify purchases and make recommendations.  This will also include server configuration and virtualization technology (primarily VMWare and Citrix).

(2)  Performing traffic analysis on the core network, ensuring that bandwidth levels and routing/diversity is appropriate.  Developing the plans to augment the network, optimize the network, reconfigure the network, etc. as growth and products dictate.

(3)  Developing and delivering the training to the rest of the organization to engineer, implement, support, and troubleshoot the core network. 

(4)  Providing direction for the development of tools to monitor, manage, and report on the core IP network.  Including an IP database to maintain customer and core network configuration data.

(5)  Support Customer and Core network connectivity as Tier II/III Support.  Primary focus on VPN, MPLS, PIPVC, SSL/Internet connectivity.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education/Training/Experience:

ü  Degree desirable, but not required.

ü  2+ years experience working with IP networks and/or technological solutions in an Enterprise environment.

ü  Cisco certification preferred but will consider applicant who is in the process of obtaining certification

ü  Proven leadership qualities and abilities; previous supervisor experience desired.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Personal Qualities:

ü  The candidate should have experience in Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, and Word, but need not be an expert; he/she will also be responsible for entering information in the systems.

Working Conditions:Works in a normal office environment.Willingness to work on evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by workload.
