Director of Engineering

The Director of Engineering reports directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer.  The Director of Engineering will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.  This position requires skilled leadership and managerial skills.  Although a level of technical expertise is necessary in this position, managerial duties such as resource allocation, scheduling and staff development is more critical. 

This position is responsible for managing a staff of Engineers while working very closely with Sales and Operations in the support of the customer. The Director of Engineering is responsible for coordinating with Project Managers and Sales personnel to meet or exceed customer expectations while carefully managing engineering costs.

The Director of Engineering is challenged with coordinating the efforts of staff and vendors to meet the needs of the business. This position is required to maintain a thorough understanding of the customer’s requirements in order to recommend and implement improvements.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

· Manage and direct Engineering staff including setting priorities, coordinating tasks and managing activities.

· Participate as a member of AllCom’s Senior Leadership Team to develop strategies and plans to increase sales, improve quality, develop customer and employee satisfaction and grow overall profitability of the company.

· Assign appropriate staff as resources for projects.  Manage allocation of personnel to best meet customer needs.  Balance Sales Engineering and Production Engineering needs to make sure the customer’s expectations are met.

· Manage and coordinate project engineering schedules.

· Consult with and advise other departments within the company to ensure efficient handoff of workflow between functional areas.

· Initiate and direct special projects as required to assess and implement improvements to Engineering group.

· Analyze vendor proposals, verifying they meet or exceed customer requirements.

· Provide reports to the Management team as requested.

· Coordinate Sales Engineering requirements so high-quality RFP responses are completed on schedule.

· Develop and maintain Engineering process and procedures that focus on continuous improvement.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Strong leadership and management capabilities are essential.

· Knowledge and expertise related to telecommunications infrastructure and design/build construction of communications and/or data center facilities is desired.

· Strong verbal communications and interpersonal skills required.  Excellent technical writing skills required.

· Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.

· Ability to manage and motivate a team of engineers to produce results within required time frames while simultaneously overseeing multiple, complex projects.

· Ability to develop a sufficient understanding of all technologies currently being engineered or installed by the Company.  Must be willing to learn quickly, be flexible, grow and succeed.

· Ability to work well with people from all levels within the organization and deal with difficult internal or customer “people issues” in a positive, effective, professional way.

· Must possess effective and efficient time management skills that enable the handling of challenging tasks under demanding schedules and situations.

· Ability to efficiently express complex technical concepts both verbally and in writing.

· Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.

· Ability to effectively use office productivity tools such as email, spreadsheets, word processors, computers, printers, fax machines, etc.

· Ability to coordinate the activities of the Engineering staff with all other functional areas in the Company.

· Ability to provide technical leadership to the Engineering  team

Desired Experience/Education:

Minimum 10 years of related experience in a technical service-based field.

Bachelors Degree in a related field is a plus, but not required.
