Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Collect requirements and design fault management solutions to monitor and maintain the T-Mobile network. These solutions will be utilized to provide proactive management and reporting for the T-Mobile network. The system engineer will work with other departments, vendors, and partners to design network management solutions as required. The system engineer provides leadership and direction for fault management solutions that will be integrated with network configuration, performance, and service quality management solutions as per the T-Mobile S&NMS strategy. * Work with network element vendors to gather requirements from internal groups within the engineering and operations organizations. * Create fault management designs based on the analysis of fault management requirements. * Work with the development and operations teams to ensure the integrity of fault management designs and implementation of fault management system features. * Create technical documents such as Feature Requirements Document (FRD), Device Model Specifications, Alarm Template Specifications, and Interface Specifications. - Work to identify and resolve issues related to fault management. Qualifications & Competencies: * Knowledge of integrated service and network management systems in telecommunications is required. * Knowledge of standard GSM/UMTS, GPRS, IP/ATM, and signaling network technologies is essential. * Knowledge of SNMP and vendor-specific element management systems for wireless NE, L2/3 IP switch/routers (i.e. Cisco, Nortel, etc). * Knowledge in the development and support of common fault management platforms (i.e. Agilent NETeXPERT, HP Openview NNM, and HP Openview OVO). * Knowledge of software development lifecycle and standard software requirement processes. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. * Must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external organizations. * Must be self motivated and require little supervision. * Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor in a crisis situation * Must be able to demonstrate professional maturity while working with others. * BS degree in Computer Science or Engineering equivalent. Equivalent combination of education and experience in network management may be substituted. * Must have a minimum of 1 year of requirements analysis and design experience of integrated network management systems. - Must have a minimum of 2 years in the administration or development of network fault management systems. - Environmental and physical demands of a typical office environment.
