Engineer II-Sys Performance
Responsibilities: The Data Engineer will be responsible for trouble-shooting of enterprise widedata network problems; including switching, data elements (PDSN, AAA, etc), cellsite, air interface and wireless access points. This individual will be required to lead and or facilitate end-to-endtroubleshooting and problem resolution of wireless data applications and networkelements. The wireless data engineer will act as the primary point of contact and liaisonfor sales, Data engineering, DSE's, WTAC, etc.., regarding data problems orinformation exchange. This position will serve as Technical Network Operations support forBlackBerrys, Smartphones, PDAs, and all Wireless/Broadband Access. Applicantmust have a thorough understanding and interest in Mobile products such as PDAs,Blackberry, High speed data cards, and remote access to data and applications. Additional responsibilities also include travel to customer location or workwith remote engineers and technicians to resolve data application or performanceproblems will be essential. Monitor high level data, performance and capacity triggers on the variousnetwork elements between the BTS and the PDSN, for both the 1X as well as EVDOhardware architecture. Help drive, develop and establish next level of data monitoring and tooldevelopment. Proactive testing and alarming of any services that do not alarmupon failure conditions Facilitate or develop and implement data network best practices for Switch &Field operations and System Performance. I.e. Site turn up testing, Backendthroughput validation and Network Element configuration/management. Stay abreast of new wireless data access devices, technologies and customerapplications. Establish relationship with other groups that support data (Product management,ATC, NOC, engineering, etc.) and facilitate regular information exchanges. Education: Electrical Engineering Degree or Related Engineering Degree, and 5 years ofexperience; or a 2 year technical degree with 7 years of technical experience or9 years related technical experience. CompTIA Convergence+ Certification CompTIA Network+ certification Requirements: Must have 3 years minimum System Performance Engineering experience. Advanced understanding of CDMA networks and high speed wireless technologies;1XRTT, EV-DO, EV-DO rev.A, WiMAX and WiFi a/b/g. Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and IP routing protocols (RIP, OSPF,BGP). Strong understanding of IP addressing, subnets, VLAN, LAN/WAN (MPLS/VPN,Ethernet, GigE, OC3-OC192.) Good understanding of ATM networks and protocol layer architectures. Experience in engineering, monitoring, and growing large, complex data networks. Advanced understanding of PDSN, HA, 1XRNC, FA and AAA servers. Advanced understanding of SIP, MIP and 3G technologies as well as VoIP andrelated protocols. Experience in wireless switching environment (Nortel, Motorola, and Lucent). Good understanding of Base Station architecture and fundamental operations. Excellent understanding of Air interface standards and general propagationprinciples. Advanced understanding of Telephony based transport h/w and fundamentals. Fluent in all IT fundamentals, LAN, WAN, Data Network Architecture, end userequipment, s/w behavior, etc. Advanced understanding of IT test equipment, packet sniffer, etc. Advanced understanding of air interface test equipment to characterize devicebehavior, CAIT, etc. Advanced understanding of Wireless voice and data call flow. Excellent written communications (Documents and technical write-ups) Strong Leadership skills. Excellent analytical skills. General programming skills, UNIX, visual basic, Mapbasic, scripting, etc.. Flexibility to travel 50% of the time. Work schedule including nights, weekends,and holidays as required.
