Field Engineer I / Cable Splicer / Overseas On A Tropical Island
Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands
Responsibilities: The Field Engineer will perform skilled duties related to OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications. The Field Engineer will Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair underground copper and fiber optic cable systems. The Field Engineer is responsible for engineering efforts including plant layout, cutovers and upgrades, update drawings, documentations and circuit diagrams. The Field Engineer will occasionally assist the Communication Engineering Department with projects and surveys. The Field Engineer must be able to work in confined spaces and travel to other sites within the Atoll.
Position Status: Unaccompanied – This full-time position has a two year minimum commitment with unaccompanied status. Unaccompanied status means that no dependants or pets are authorized.
Security Clearance: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Required: Requirements for this position will include a High School Diploma, along with training in Electronics or an AS in Electronics. The position will require a minimum of 6 years of professional experience. Must have at least (6) years of experience as a telephone cable splicer, (2) two years of which must be at a journeyman level. At least (4) years of Fiber Optic design, installation and maintenance is required. Proficient with on site test equipment 3M 965 DSP w/TDR, TEMPO SIDEKICK 7B, TONEARC MODEL 5, THROWMASTER 102A, DYNATEL 573A, PAS and LID FUSION SPLICERS FUJIKURA 4OS and AURORA FW312, NOYES Light Source both LASER and LED, NOYES Power Meter, 8000XGT Fiber Identifier, TEKTRONIX TFS 3031 and ANIRITSU MW9070 OTDR, 3M HOTMELT Connectors. Experience with splicing with 710 modules up to 1800 pair and terminating with 110 and 66 blocks, plus familiar with kold-n-klose and preformed closures is required. Fiber optic splicing up to 96 strand on both 125uM loose tube and 900uM tight buffer type, plus termination of ST, FC, SC, SMA906 and LC connectors. The ability to test line condition and isolate faults in both copper and fiber optic cable with test equipment provided is required. The position may have normal working hours but will be subject to call-out on a 24-hour basis. The Field Engineer is required to maintain first aid and CPR certification plus confined space training is required.
Desired: CAD experience is desired. An AS degree in Electronics is desired.
