Headend Technician needed in Van Nuys

Headend Technician performs the tasks of high complexity relating to the installation and troubleshooting of transmission and reception equipment for video, telephony and high-speed online in the Headend, hubs and other signal origination facilities.

The primary work schedule for this shift will be 1pm to 12am Wednesday to Saturday with On-Call duties, however the work schedule is subject to changes and variations.

 

MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

Collects and interprets engineering documentation, which includes schematics, fiber management systems and performance analysis reports. • Install, align and repair headend equipment to maintain optimum picture quality and performance. • Perform on going quality control checks and other established preventative maintenance activities on forward and return paths in the headend and hub sites. • Maintain and repair the TVRO earth station and off air antennas. • Coordinate inventory, repair and calibration records on equipment and parts. • Conduct the FCC Proof of Performance testing and documentation. • Maintain fiber optics transmission equipment at headend and remote hub sites. • Assist service and maintenance technicians and warehouse personnel as needed. • Assists in the implementation and activation of electronics and hardware to support advanced services. • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in CATV. • Higher education in electronics with extensive experience and course work in troubleshooting and repairing video and RF electronic equipment is preferred. • Good knowledge of RF communication using analog and digital modulation techniques. • Have ability to operate broadband and CATV test equipment, including but not limited to spectrum analyzer, DVM, OTDR, optical power meter, oscilloscope, Signal Meter and QAM analyzers, Return Path Monitoring Equipment, Signal Generator, Bandpass Filters, NTSC video test equipment etc. • Good knowledge of telephony and high-speed data networks. • Good knowledge of electricity and grounding theory. • Have a valid California driver license and able to operate a vehicle safely and in compliance with maintenance and inspection requirements. • Able to use hand and power tools. • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Strong computer background with emphasis on Excel and Microsoft Word. • Must be available to work day and night, including on call and weekends, in various weather conditions.
