IP Engineer
Design new multi-million dollar Internet Protocol ("IP") networks and integrate them into a fully functional customer serving environment and oversight of successful deployment of the network, which provides services available to over 3 million homes. These deployments can be both augmentations and enhancements to existing networks or entirely new deployments. Act as highest-level escalation for troubleshooting and debugging of production networks. Analyze reports and data trends in order to identify problems before they are customer impacting. Track usage across all systems and plan capacity augmentations as needed.
30% - Design, validate, and implement the integration of network hardware / software feeding data to and from multiple device types. Develop new approaches to the delivery and transport of various revenue generating product lines through the selection of complex technologies.
10% - Deploy and augment existing systems, Act in lead role in the engineering of multi-million dollar system deployments enabling new revenue generating products and services.
40% - Troubleshoot and remediate: Provides specialized support to the technical workforce for the remediation of difficult hardware and software issues. Typical production systems deliver services available to over 3 million homes passed. Provides operational support and demand maintenance to critical services 7x24x365.
20% - Analyze trends and plan capacity: Collect and analyze network performance and resource utilization data. Generate reports, either manual or automated, for tracking performance and network device management.
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) 6-8 years experience:
a. Supporting network devices within a production system in a mission-critical 7x24
environment
b. Configuring and supporting TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)
c. Configuring and supporting OSFP, BGP and Cisco routers.
2) 1-2 years experience:
a. Simple Network Management Protocol ("SNMP") and network management
b. Programming and automating processes
c. Project management
Job Skills:
1) Strong working knowledge of IP routing protocols i.e., Routing Information Protocol
("RIP"), Open Shortest Path First ("OSPF"), Internal Boarder Gateway Protocol ("IBGP")
and BGP.
2) Hands on experience designing, installing, configuring and troubleshooting Cisco IP
networks.
3) Optical Networking experience. installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of optical
circuits and equipment i.e., Single mode and multi mode systems.
4) Understanding of Radio Frequency ("RF") splitting and combining systems.
5) Thorough understanding of TCP and the ability to diagnose problems using a packet-
capturing tool.
6) Working knowledge of the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification ("DOCSIS")
protocol.
7) Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce
documentation of operational procedures. Proficient in the use of Word, Excel and Visio.
8) Must be able to work variable shift hours and rotate on-call duties.
9) Must be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment requiring broad experience,
adaptability, quick learning and excellent problem solving skills.Formal
Education/Degree:
Bachelor's degree in a computer related field from four-year college or university; minimum six to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates/Licenses:
CCNA, CCNP, CCIE and RHCE desirable.
Job Training:
Training in the fields of IP routing, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) / Internet Protocol (IP), video distribution systems, multicast, MPEG streams and Linux desirable.
