Accept the Clearwire challenge, join the team and make difference. Microwave Engineer - Kirkland, WA* / 08-1901 Position Description:Clearwire is seeking senior-level Microwave Engineers. Working as part of the Clearwire Engineering team, these candidates will be responsible for multiple aspects of microwave network design and engineering, site selection support, path profile/line of sight analysis, microwave network field tuning/optimization, interference measurement/tracking, and .wireless backhaul for new markets. Responsibilities include:**New Markets Development**- Participate in the search ring process and assist in the selection of cell sites that are microwave-optimum. Must work closely with market project managers and service delivery RF engineering team during the site selection and acquisition process.- Development of wireless microwave backhaul routes for new markets. - Microwave network backhaul architectures, including ownership of link budgets, link availability planning and link redundancy/diversity strategies.- Management of outsourced vendors to support microwave designs in all new markets. This includes conducting detailed design reviews and audits to ensure that all network objectives are fulfilled, and tracking project status against plan.- Develop network designs at licensed microwave bands (11, 18, 23 GHz) and unlicensed bands (5.8, 5.4, and 24 GHz). - Field work including path surveys, installation and commissioning support, troubleshooting, and optimization.- Evaluate, test and troubleshoot microwave products. Work with NOC/Tier 3 and equipment suppliers to resolve product defects- Work closely with outsourced vendors to support microwave network design services in new markets. This includes conducting detailed design reviews and market audits to ensure that all network objectives are fulfilled for microwave backhaul and radio frequency (RF) coverage.- Train local market field techs to ensure that microwave Operations and Performance support is done correctly.- Assist commissioning and field teams during backhaul network site construction and commissioning.**Ongoing Market Support and Optimization**- Help test and troubleshoot microwave backhaul network systems issues. Work with NOC/Tier 3 and equipment suppliers to resolve product defects.- When spurious interference is encountered in a market, spearhead swat team to measure, track and identify sources of interference.Position Requirements:- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible microwave backhaul network design and engineering experience.- Bachelors of Electrical Engineering required. Masters or higher degrees preferred.- Prior RF/microwave experience with a wireless service provider strongly preferred.- In addition to the licensed microwave bands, familiarity and experience with working in the UNII unlicensed band is strongly preferred.- Prior experience with vendor management of outsourced RF contractors.- Working knowledge of microwave propagation and planning processes and use of propagation tools. Expert level familiarity with PathLoss is required.- Familiarity and experience with working with PTP microwave backhaul radios (5.8, 18, 23 GHz, etc) is preferred.- Prior experience with vendor management of outsourced microwave equipment contractors.- Solid understanding and hands-on experience with microwave performance instrumentation and analysis tools.- Strong microwave backhaul network systems engineering knowledge and analytical skills.- Experience working at cell sites including installation, verification and microwave optimization.- Working knowledge and experience in IP networking strongly preferred.- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.- Ability to manage stressful situations and adapt to changing environments.
