Network Engineer (LMC Tier 4)

The NWLMC is looking for qualified individuals to help manage, troubleshoot and optimize the Comcast network.

The LMC handles monitoring, configuration, and repair for many aspects of the regional network.

This position will share responsibility for the Fiber Optic DWDM transport systems as well as the Routers and Switches that handle High Speed Data (HSD), VoIP, and Digital Video. Extensive on-going training will be provided.

Essential functions of position include but are not limited to the following:

- Diagnose and troubleshoot escalated issues (network, cable, and optical equipment and systems) for fault isolation and remediation.
- Perform operating systems upgrades on all network elements.
- Establish and deploy Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), router, and network element operational configurations for both trial and production units from various manufacturers.
- Troubleshoot bridges, switches, gateways, routers, CMTS's, firewalls, circuits, and various transport medium.
- Assist all levels of management, engineering, and departments with SME level assistance in network support and troubleshooting.
- Author appropriate instructional guides for lower-level technical staff and provide informational reports and papers for management and executives.
- Provide technical support during the rollout of new services and train personnel on new features and technologies as required.
- Organize and manage root cause analysis data gathering, meetings, and submit final reports.
- Work as a liaison between external vendors and Comcast; open cases and track progressions
- Ability to work in maintenance windows and on-call rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
EDUCATION:
Bachelors Degree in an applicable discipline and 3 to 5 years of related experience. 5 - 10 years working in a Hybrid Fiber Cable (HFC) environment may be substituted. (SCTE, CCNA certifications will be considered).

EXPERIENCE:
- 5 or more years experience delivering HSD, Video, VOD, VoIP in an HFC environment.
- Fiber Optic transport systems, CWDM, DWDM, SONET.
- Cisco, Arris, Big Band, Motorola CMTS’.
- Cisco routers/switches/bridges.
- Internet routing protocols, WAN technologies, router configuration and troubleshooting.
- TCP/IP network security devices and techniques.
- DHCP, DNS, and IP address management tools.
- OSPF, BGP and RIP protocols.

The LMC is a multi-discipline environment. Strong skills in a given discipline may offset initial areas for growth. Key strengths are the desire and ability to learn complex systems as well as the willingness to share knowledge once obtained. The successful candidates will ultimately be expected to gain functional knowledge enabling troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of all key platforms in the delivery network.
