Network Operations Technician full time
POSITION: NETWORK OPERATION TECHNICAN I (FULL TME)DEPARTMENT: PROGRAMMING/NOC
PURPOSE:
To monitor the plant and network of the Time Warner Cable San Diego Division, including Carlsbad, Fallbrook, Desert Cities, Desert Hot Springs, 29 Palms, Yucca Valley and Barstow. Identify and Dispatch appropriate personnel when outages occur, route daily maintenance, monitor channel quality, security, equipment status, on-demand content and CSG systems to ensure they are operating properly and notify appropriate personnel when systems fail.
DUTIES AND OBJECTIVES:
· Act as regional monitor for all channels and services for proper picture / sound quality and connectivity. Corrects minor problems and informs appropriate personnel of any programming or technical problems.
· Monitor the current health of the Cable Plant including power supplies, nodes, PPV and VOD usage, bandwidth, intermittent issues and outage trends. Recognizes and identifies location of cable outages and possible fiber cuts through Big Brother, NSM, iGlass, CSG and ACP, alerts and dispatches appropriate staff to repair outages and documents outages using MOM (monthly outage maintenance).
· Monitor all network operation functions for quality and accuracy including ad insertion, all analog & digital video and audio channels, on-demand content, High-Speed Data Access, Digital Phone and switching for Syndex blackouts.
· Monitor and administer the security systems for all TW Cable San Diego Division properties. Responds to hold-up, panic, building security and fire alarms and takes appropriate steps to immediately notify the proper authorities.
· Act as communication liaison between technical and customer service personnel to provide programming changes, box hits, outage information and additional advanced troubleshooting.
· Assist Technicians in the field by adding CableCards, making customer contact and any other tasks that may present themselves.
· Prepare and complete discrepancy reports for every event that affects service to internal or external customers.
· Route Demand Maintenance Technicians for TW Cable San Diego Division before each shift and as needed.
· Monitor electronic program guide and reports errors in the guide to Department Management for correction.
· Provide quality assurance check on all local VOD contents/assets, Performs playback of videotapes, DVD’s and operates video equipment for regular cablecast programming. Dubs and encodes tapes for leased access programming playback by utilizing video servers, video tape players recorder, automation system and VOD compliant MPEG encoding.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Must possess strong computer skills and demonstrate proficiency and experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software including familiarity with other Windows based software and the Internet.
· Basic to intermediate knowledge of CSG/ACP billing systems, Remedy Ticketing System (Global Network Operations Center – GNOC), I-Glass, Network Service Manager (NSM) Big Brother and DPOM within 90 days from hire date.
· Basic to intermediate technical understanding of electronic monitoring equipment (i.e., VTR formats such as Betacam, ¾”, DVD, televisions, etc) video servers, VCR’s and televisions within 90 days from hire date.
· Basic to intermediate level knowledge of all TWC supplied customer equipment including, but not limited to: Set-top boxes, cable cards, remotes, modems – including Digital Phone modems, and wireless routers within 90 days from hire date.
· Must pass Network Operations Center Tech I test with a score of 80% or higher after 90 day training period.
· Must possess excellent customer service skills and good reading comprehension.
· Must possess basic typing skills and complete familiarity with a computer keyboard.
· Must be able to use a Nextel 2 way radio within 90 days from hire date.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· AA, AS, BS or BA degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field is highly desired
· Experience in Information Technology, Master Control, Programming, Call Center Customer Service, or Technical Support preferred; comparable knowledge acquired through certificate or degree program may be acceptable in place of work experience.
· Must possess strong communication skills.
· Must possess basic math skills including the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages and perform basic math operations on clock time and time code using hours, minutes, seconds and frames.
· Ability to analyze facts and data to accurately define problems during troubleshooting of major NOC systems; must be able to draw accurate conclusions and decide most efficient course of action to restore systems to normal operation within 90 days from hire date.
· Must be able to lift 40 pounds, reach, push, pull, bend and stoop.
· Must have good visual acuity in order to ensure good picture quality.
· Must be able to listen to volume of programming and for sound quality and tones, which indicate the need for switching.
