Network Technician

General Job Description:

The Network Technician is the entry level position providing installation and support of Carousel implementations for customers.  Primary duties will be to handle staging of network equipment, assist lead engineer in racking, configuration, test and troubleshooting of project installations.  Perform post installation documentation using Microsoft Visio.  Other responsibilities include post installation support of Carousel Industries maintenance customers at a tier 2/3 level.  Support may require remote and onsite troubleshooting.  This position will share in on-call rotation schedule.

Responsibilities:

·  Understanding of networking technologies including; TCP/IP, DHCP, TFTP, VLAN, QoS, VoIP, and various WAN technologies (Frame Relay, MPLS, etc.)

·  Experience with configuration and implementation of Cisco/Extreme data switches and Cisco/Juniper routers

·  Ability to configure QoS models, IP addressing schemes, and VLAN designs required

·  Understanding of VPN, SSL and Firewall  (Cisco/Juniper)

·  Create network topology maps using MS Visio

·  Analyze end-to-end TCP/IP protocol trace to identify network connectivity issues is a strong plus


Required Knowledge and Experience:

·  AS/BS degree in Engineering/Computer Science

·  1 - 3 years experience in networking technologies

·  First level vendor certification (CCNA, JCNIA, ENA)

·  Excellent communication skills

·  Excellent organizational and time management skills

·  Excellent troubleshooting skills

·  Ability to work independently as well in a team environment

·  Must be able to learn new things quickly, need minimal direction, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

·  Knowledge of traditional voice technologies

·  Good technical troubleshooting skills are essential for working field problems
