Product Manager - Data Products

Position Purpose

The Product Manager carries responsibility for the definition, development and delivery of Centennial’s broadband products in the areas of data and IP. Relying on a keen understanding of the requirements of the business market and Centennial’s positioning within that market, incumbent defines Centennial’s product, pricing, packaging and distribution strategies. He/she also plays a key advisory role in delineating Centennial’s communications strategies, which are further elaborated by Marketing. Upon and during implementation of the products, the Product Manager spearheads all efforts to ensure that Sales is effective in selling the products, to which end he/she designs ongoing training and support programs. The Product Manager eventually owns the product and is accountable for its commercial success.

Major Objectives

- Understand trends and requirements in the business market place through marketing research, business publications and direct customer contacts. Continuous self-education with respect to technical and commercial developments that are pertinent to the products managed.

- Translate such market developments into product requirements, that make technical and business sense within the Centennial internal and external landscape.

- Draft product definitions in terms of feature functionality, pricing and deployment requirements (Change Request documents).

- Interface with Product Implementation Manager to discuss technical and operational requirements and initiate deployment planning.

- Develop pre-sale promotions and support programs and activities (before, during and after product launch).

- The Product Manager is the product specialist to Sales and other internal, as well as external, entities.

- Manage the product’s life cycle, and continuously modify and improve the product, as needed pursuant to competitive circumstances and/or emerging market opportunities.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business-related field.

- A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience, with a minimum of 3 years in the marketing and/or sales of data and IP-related products and services.

- One to three years of experience in telecommunications

- Excellent communications skills, written and oral (one-on-one as well as presentation skills); fully bi-lingual Spanish and English.

- Functional and technical expertise in networking technologies such as: Frame Relay, ATM, Ethernet services, IP, and Data Center Services.

- Computer-literate (at a minimum MS Office).

- Analytical thinking.

- Technical affinity combined with more-than-average business acumen.

- Curiosity and the urge to ‘dig one level deeper’.

- Full of initiative and self-started.

- Ability to understand matters at a strategic level, but move down to tactical and operational levels quickly and effectively.

- Ability to think ‘out-of-the-box’.

- People-management skills; incumbent is expected to be effective directing the efforts of contributors outside her own organizational group.
