Resident Engineer

Location: 92658 Requisition ID:  REQ60145589 (Post ID:71469847) Job Level:  Experienced (Non-Manager)As a Resident Engineer in our Enterprise Services Organization you will have the opportunity to be part of a high performance team supporting one of Nortel Networks most strategic customers. The primary responsibility of the Resident Engineer is to install, configure, maintain and support the all Nortel installed equipment on our customer's premise and to act as the liaison between customer operations personnel and Nortel Networks customer support, including Service Account Management team and Engineering staff. Typical activities performed by a Resident Engineer can include assistance in the following areas: analyze, review, and recommend configuration information; analyze inter-network traffic flow; recommend modifications as appropriate and assist with implementation of modifications; implement and test Nortel Networks products to include new, or upgrades of, hardware and software; configure hardware and software for full functionality; keep the documentation up to date; diagnose, isolate faults, and repair Nortel Networks equipment failures or order and provision spares when required; assist with communication, consultation, coordination, escalation and leadership to address major problems; and open and close trouble tickets as needed. Job DescriptionTo qualify for consideration for this position you must have detailed knowledge of Nortel's Enterprise Data Product portfolio, specifically the Passport 8000 series, Contivity, Baystack, & Wireless LAN. This includes the ability to configure and provision the hardware, enable applications, install software & hardware upgrades, and document problems to resolution. You will need the commitment to collaborate with the client to design and deliver network solutions that enhance their mission effectiveness. In addition, the ability to work with the Nortel Networks team to deliver reliable products and services of the highest quality, competitively priced, and deployed on time is a must. You will also need to possess the integrity to never sacrifice nor compromise Nortel Networks commitment to the quality of the products and services that carry the Nortel Networks brand. Key Responsibilities  o  Implementation of ERS8600 / BayRS solutions at a customer site. o  Provide direction, recommendations and solutions to implementation challenges.o  Provide recommendations and/or solutions to drive cost & effectiveness improvements.o  Contribute to Customer network planning and direction. o  Work closely with GNTS/GNPS to ensure ERS8600 / BayRS stability and enhancements. Skills & Knowledge Requiredo  Strong technical support skills across one or more products. o  Excellent customer interface and management skills.o  Familiarity with Nortel base technologies, platforms and products.o  Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VoIP, Ethernet, 802.11 and Routing Protocols.o  Strong understanding of Wireless LANs.o  Strong Understanding of Network Design and Ethernet Switchingo  Understanding of IP Network Security Concerns.o  Understanding of IP Network Management Practices.o  Nortel product development and lifecycle management practices.o  Excellent written and oral communications.o  Presentation development and delivery skills. o  Ability to work within both independently as well as part of a team. Qualifications· Experience across Design Engineering, Customer/sales support, or technical support· Track record of successfully working with internal and external groups across multiple products & technologies· Experience with communication network solutions implementation (Engineering/installation/commissioning)·  University degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related fields·  Certification in Ethernet Switching or ERS8600 (NCSS, NCSE, CCNA, CCIE)Travel Required:  Minimal travel Position Type:  Full Time, Employee Relocation assistance:  None,  Homebase Eligible:  NO Shift:  Day/First Shift Business Unit:  ESPN
