Nokia Corp. posted a 44% jump in fourth-quarter 2007 net profit as it outpaced rivals in the increasingly tough mobile-phone market.Strong sales in emerging markets helped boost 2007 net profit 44 percent in the period and saw the Finnish company capture more than 40 percent of the global handset market -- an all-time best and long-term goal. Total profits in 2007 reached 7.2 billion euros ($10.6 billion), up 67 percent from the year before, while sales jumped 24 percent to 51 billion euros ($74.8 billion), Nokia said. It sold 437 million handsets last year, 26 percent more than in 2006
Senior Architect, Emerging Technologies, Forum Nokia, Mountain View
As a member of the Forum Nokia Americas team with Nokia’s Services and Software Division, you will be required to help grow American developer community engaged with Nokia. You will be asked to contribute to team goals and achieve individual targets. Specifically, you will be asked to:
Serve as the principal investigator, developer, and evangelist of emerging mobile and Web technologies, such as Web 2.0, Web Runtime, Touch UI, and advanced Symbian, J2ME, and Maemo/Linux technologies
Architect, design, and develop demos, prototypes, and pre-production applications and utilities that utilize emerging development technologies from Nokia and/or its competition
Team with Forum Nokia business development to provide expert technical services to identified software and services partners of Nokia, with an objective of facilitating Nokia platform and technology adoption
Internally evangelize advantages and disadvantages of developing applications with Nokia developer offerings, in part by developing advisory councils among global R&D and engineering teams
Influence Nokia’s technology direction, inclusive of products, services, tools, and developer offerings, in part by collaborating with internal architects on next generation architectures and designs
Orchestrate and run developer competitions in conjunction with other regional Forum Nokia teams
Publish code-level articles and technical white papers via Forum Nokia and third party sites
Review technical proficiency and competence of selected development organizations, and publish technical feasibility studies upon request
Provide expert solutions consulting and custom development services as needed to regional developers and operators
Qualifications:
· Minimum ten years of directly relevant technical experience (e.g., providing architectural, design, development, technical support and/or advisory services for mobile or Web application development, especially on Nokia platforms)
· Acknowledged as an industry expert
· Expert hands-on programming skills with web technologies (including AJAX), Symbian/S60 platform, Java ME / J2EE, Flash, desktop and/or mobile widgets
· Experience and demonstrated success with the development and execution of developer code-level competitions
· End-to-end wireless development and deployment knowledge
· Ability and desire to learn new technologies and concepts quickly and apply and relate the learning to real world situations
· Strong collaboration and persuasion skills
· Demonstrated can-do attitude and willingness to work with matrix and cross functional organizations
· Masters Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
· Excellent communication skills including prior public speaking experience and previous developer-oriented technical publications
Preferred:
· Experience and knowledge of Nokia devices, developer platforms at the architect level
· Knowledge of the entire mobile development landscape including competitors, available development languages, tools, carriers, etc.
· Experience in selling, advising, and/or consulting to wireless network operators, handset manufacturers will be a plus
· Knowledge of mobile Linux will be a plus
Environment:
