The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for the engineering and implementation of network performance monitoring instrumentation, collaborating with other teams to specify requirements for extracting performance information and aggregating metrics on web portals and executive dashboards, and writing procedures for configuring network infrastructure to provide metrics and then ensuring they are implemented. Responsibilities: § Designs network performance monitoring instrumentation and supporting infrastructure into optical, ATM and IP networks that carry mobile wireless customer data services. § Provides expert-level knowledge and specifies requirements to software development teams that extract metrics from the instrumentation for presentation on web portals and executive dashboards. § Leads cross-functional teams responsible for troubleshooting broader end-to-end service issues that affect mobile wireless customers § Configures monitoring tools to create ad hoc and permanent reports for network service quality management § Provides expert-level support for identifying / resolving complicated network problems in a lab environment prior to the launch of new services § Provides expert-level support to troubleshooting activities § Participates on cross-functional teams that address broader organization process improvement opportunities Requirements: § Expert-level knowledge of IP network protocols, including intra and inter-domain protocols, layer 2 virtualization via VLANs or MPLS, and NetFlow § Deep knowledge of optical, ATM, and IP network architecture development and instrumentation § Strong ability to configure and/or extract metrics from infrastructure components including, but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN concentrators from well-known infrastructure vendors including Cisco, Nokia, F5, etc. § Strong network troubleshooting skills § Deep technical knowledge of HP OpenView Network Node Manager, HP OpenView Performance Insight and HP OpenView Operations with an ability to synthesize and communicate technical requirements for integration to portal development teams based on the underlying knowledge of HP OpenView technical capabilities Experience: - Minimum of 5 years of network design/engineering/troubleshooting experience of large and complicated networks. - Hands on experience with monitoring and traffic decoding/analyses tools including Network General Sniffer, Net Scout, HP OpenView, and Brix Networks. Level of expertise will be evaluated based on vendor certifications and/or hands-on demonstration during the interview process. - Prefer wireless telecommunications industry experience. Education: - Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar field is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience in optical, ATM and IP network engineering may be substituted.
