Senior Network Engineer ~ Generalist to Marry VoIP and MPLS Design with Operational Efficiencies
The network generalist with service provider experience who wants to supplement a wide variety of day-to-day operational tasks with VoIP and MPLS network design will be in an excellent position to grow their skills as a Senior Network Engineer for Telekenex in San Francisco. You’ll join an elite IP Infrastructure Group where you’ll drive projects involving big bandwidth core links and migrating core MPLS networks and train junior engineers to serve in effective level 2 and level 3 support capacities. This is a great opportunity to turn up a layer two/layer three backbone over OC192, dark fiber, DWDM, and 10 GB Ethernet in Northern and Southern California as you take responsibility for all IP-based network components in a national service provider environment. Besides exercising your technical chops with Cisco architecture you'll gain exposure to Ethernet delivery technologies like HVPLS in conjunction with our Hosted IP Telephony service offering. This is a hands-on role allowing you to contribute in a small and largely autonomous team of network professionals doing cutting edge service delivery for a fast-paced organization.
Telekenex is a next-generation telecommunications service provider serving enterprises and carriers with a robust national network, and innovative solutions, including: local, long distance, international calling, audio/presentation/desktop sharing conferencing, high-speed data transmission and Internet services, and a full suite of customer premise communications equipment and hosted IP telephony solutions. Telekenex helps companies reduce communication costs, increase employee productivity with new business collaboration solutions and eliminate the expense and complexity of managing legacy PBX solutions. We have 130 employees and our corporate headquarters and network operations center is located in San Francisco. We're also proud to point out that in an industry where employee turnover is roughly 35%, ours is less than one percent.
As a Senior Network Engineer in San Francisco, you'll leverage a solid base of generalist skills and add to our group's collective intellectual depth in, ideally, several of the following five core technical competencies: • MPLS/ VPLS experience allowing to you design and build an MPLS/VPLS network over Cisco-based architecture. You're experience with 7200 and 7600 series routers will be key. • Routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP. Your prior work building and managing multi-site regional or national networks will give you the foundation to succeed here. • Comfort with the hardware architecture of chassis based Cisco equipment such as Catalyst 6500 series and Cisco 7600 series routers. • QOS. You've worked on converged data networks in a multi-tiered services model where delivery is optimized for latency sensitive data traffic including VoIP packets and video over IP packets. • Packet/port based security. You have used the appliances to help detect and mitigate denial of service (DOS) or distributed denial of service (DDOS). We'll count on your prior experience with Cisco PIX, FWSM and IDS blade-based service modules within the 7600 router as well as newly emerging security methods and standards. • Domain name services (DNS) administration experience as well as Unix command line skills would be a plus. Besides technical competency, the successful candidate will be willing to admit mistakes; they're flexible enough to think outside the box; they can engage others without being dismissive and, at the highest level, they're effective teachers who can empower more junior team members. If this sounds like the kind of environment in which you would thrive, then take the next step forward in your career.
