Senior Technical Testing Project Manager - Video

NOT A FUNCTIONAL PM... The best fit for this position is someone with video background that moved in PM. Required: good understanding of video and 4 years of Project Management experience.


POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the NE&TO Testing and QA organization (T/QA), this person will be responsible for project managing and driving the testing of all Video Projects through the T/QA End-to-End labs. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying all testing tasks, scheduling all Video-related test initiatives in the appropriate test labs, reserving all resources required for each Video-related test initiative, quantifying and prioritizing areas of opportunities and risks on assigned projects, and determining how to get a test initiative back on track when it is behind schedule. This person will also gain agreement and confirmation of the following with the test teams: The minimum scope required to satisfy business needs; milestone schedule allowing work completion in an orderly, cost effective manner, while meeting project deadlines; and regular communication of status and progress against goals. This person will be required to work across organizations (the BU, engineering, operations and planning and implementation organizations) to understand and plan how to best meet the business needs. This person must have strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and project management skills and must feel comfortable taking direction from members of the senior leadership team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (May perform any or all of the following duties, not in priority order)

• Actively participate in Architecture &  Requirements reviews in order to understand what is required for specific Video-related test initiatives and develop the associated End-to-End test schedules, from customer provisioning through bill rendering, and everything in between.

• Serve as the single point of contact for all T/QA Video-related test status and associated technical issues to internal and external organizations
• Work with internal team members to identify all T/QA tasks and associated dependencies, identify owners for all tasks, identify risks and develop mitigation plans, and schedule all resources required to support test activities
• Act as main interface to NE&TO and external organizations for providing Video-related test roadmaps.

• Maintain daily and weekly T/QA test status for all Video-related test initiatives.

• Develop and communicate quarterly workplans to the T/QA test teams.
• Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism while emphasizing a flexible, "can do" attitude across the NE&TO project team.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
• Some travel is required.

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience is required. MBA or PMI certification is a definite plus.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 years experience in project managing complex technology/product/service introductions. At least 2 years of experience in project managing Video test programs.  At least 3 references from senior managers that applicant has successfully managed at least 3 complex projects. Course work, industry training or continuing education programs related to testing, quality assurance, broadband networking, packet communications, digital video transmission and telecommunications is a plus. Prior experience on projects with leadership responsibility and leadership of product evaluation teams is required.

SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required since this position interacts with various organizations across NE&TO. The candidate for this position must have an in-depth understanding of: (1) the various components of a Video architecture supporting Scientific Atlanta & Motorola environments; (2) Network Engineering and Systems Engineering architectures as they relate to the Video architecture; and (3) how Video services and components of the architecture are tested. This position also requires the ability to work in an unstructured environment, with minimal direction and under aggressive schedules, with a high degree of demonstrated decision making and problem solving. Proficiency in MS Project and knowledge of and ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, databases, presentation and graphics software is required. Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of modern cable systems architecture and test automation. Familiarity with Agile Development Process or other modern product development processes is a plus.
