Welcome to T-Mobile! ************************************************************************************* This is a senior technical position responsible for advanced remote network surveillance and first tier trouble shooting. This includes, but is not limited to, testing, locating and repairing complex equipment problems of 2G Nortel, Nokia and Ericsson systems, as well Nokia and Ericsson UMTS systems. Performing fault management functions for a wide array of platforms in the network including MSC (Mobile Switching Center), MSS (Mobile Soft Switch), MGW (Media Gateway), voicemail (IN), HLR (Home Location Register), VLR (Visitor Location Register), BSC (Base Station Controller), BTS (Base Transceiver Station), Node B (UMTS Base Station) RNC (UMTS Remote Network Controller) SMSC (Short Message Service Center and IWF (Inter Working Function), VAS (Value Added Services) Platforms, and IP and ATM Network Platforms. Primary Duties and Responsibilities As part of a cross-functional team, uses advanced knowledge and skill sets to support Network Performance and Reliability initiatives. Troubleshoots problems related to the network and mentors more junior level technicians in resolving complex problems. Acts as an escalation point to resolve complex network problems. Frequently interfaces with field team members, other OSC (Operations Service Center) technicians and all service vendors. Provides guidance to others while dispatching field team members and performs escalation procedures in a timely manner. Performs fault isolation as it pertains to T1 trouble. Provides in-depth analysis to isolate call failures and dropped calls. Provides corrective maintenance as needed. Uses in-depth knowledge to provide input on process improvements related to maintenance and repair activities. Assists and trains more junior techs on switching and data center nodes. Performs fault isolation tests related to T1 trouble. Monitors network alarms, performs fault isolation testing, and performs system call traces. Creates and responds to remedy work orders and trouble tickets by either conducting triage or dispatching the appropriate technician for resolution. Escalates trouble tickets with third party vendors such as power and Telco companies. Provides recommendations in the development of standard operating procedures. Provides support for Field Service Center and Market Capital projects. Answers in bound telephone calls from a wide variety of client organizations and external groups and performs the necessary support required by the caller. Position Requirements Functional Technical Skills * Strong Analytical skills * Strong knowledge of 2G GSM * Knowledge of 3G UMTS * Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks. * In-depth working knowledge of all tools and test equipment used by Network Operations. * Strong PC skills and knowledge of MS Office * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to completion * Be flexible in ever-changing environments and priorities * Be open in providing and receiving constructive feedback * Show initiative in achieving company goals and objectives * Ability to type 20 words per minute * Knowledge of the site expansion process a plus * Must meet minimum proficiency requirements * Education and Experience * 2-year technical degree, military or work experience in a technical environment * Experience working in a Network Operation Center in GSM, UMTS, or Switch Operations or Field Operations required * Typically requires a minimum of 4-6 years of Wireless industry experience preferred.
