MSV is Redefining Wireless Communications™ with the development of its hybrid satellite-terrestrial communications network, based on MSV’s patented ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology. The company expects its next-generation network will provide seamless, transparent and ubiquitous wireless coverage of the United States and Canada to conventional handsets. Mobile Satellite Ventures is a joint venture between Mobile Satellite Ventures LP and Mobile Satellite Ventures (Canada) Inc. MSVLP is owned and controlled by SkyTerra Communications, Inc. (OTCBB: SKYT).
MSV’s MSAT-2 satellite and MSV Canada’s MSAT-1 satellite deliver mobile wireless voice and data services primarily for public safety, security, fleet management and asset tracking in the U.S. and Canada. MSV and MSV Canada are developing a hybrid satellite-terrestrial communications network, which they expect will provide seamless, transparent and ubiquitous wireless coverage of the United States and Canada to conventional handsets. MSV holds the first FCC license to provide hybrid satellite-terrestrial services. MSV and MSV Canada plan to launch two satellites for coverage of the United States and Canada, which are expected to be among the largest and most powerful commercial satellites ever built. When completed, the network is expected to support communications in a variety of areas including public safety, homeland security, aviation, transportation and entertainment, by providing a platform for interoperable, user-friendly and feature-rich voice and high-speed data services.
ResponsibilitiesProvides second and third tier support for the software and hardware aspects of MSV Satellite and Terrestrial Services. Performs engineering functions and provides subject matter expertise, on a 7 by 24 hour basis, to the US Operations work group. Responsible for back-up support to the TechOps Technicians who have primary responsibility for the Feederlink Earth Station (FES) and Nortel DMS-MTX switch.Receives system and customer trouble reports from US Operations, TechOps, Channel Managers and the Customer Service Representatives (CSRs). Works to diagnose, duplicate, and resolve system problems within MSV Network.Provides input into the Trouble Reporting process. Performs data gathering and analysis to identify system trends, to initiate correction for operational or procedural issues, and to gather sufficient information to prove vendor problems. Writes and tracks resolution of resultant Deficiency Reports.Performs testing to duplicate, and therefore, diagnose problems.Writes and publishes Policies, Procedures, and Drawings for use by Operations Technicians. Is an active member on committees requiring Technical Support representation.Performs activities in support of planning, testing, and performing Maintenance Releases.Assists with the development of Maintenance Release execution and back-out procedures. Responsible for writing requirements specifications and systems test plans for tools and enhancements to the Core Network and FES to provide improved system visibility and detection of systems problems and, as a result, optimum system stability. Works with Product Management to support the development and implementation of new products, features, and services.Provides training and technical direction to the Operations Department and Customer Service, as necessary.Responsible for the operations, maintenance, and testing of mission critical infrastructure that supports the Network Operation and the Data Integration telecommunications Centers to ensure the utmost reliability and stability. The mission critical infrastructure systems include the US Core Network, Connectivity to the Core Network, QoS Monitoring Systems, and the Feeder-Link Earth Station (FES).Coordinates multi-group efforts with other technical members. Perform other tasks as required by Manager of US Operations.
QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or minimum 8 years experience. Coordinates multi-group efforts with other members of the Management Team. Good problem solving skills. Ability to interface with diverse groups within the company. Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.Very Strong documentation skills. Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous tasks.Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) Programs.
