Job Title: Tool & Die Maker

Due to our continued growth and customer demand we are currently recruiting for a Tool & Die Maker located at our Joliet, IL facility.

 

Summary:

Produce and maintain precision tooling such as dies, fixtures, and gauges required by manufacturing. Build, repair, troubleshoot, or modify various dies such as progressive, compound, or pierce and blanking dies. Perform a wide variety of complex machining and metal removal operations using equipment such as mills, lathes, surface grinders.

 

Job Responsibilities:

- Examine and precisely measure tooling, dies, fixtures, etc. to determine whether repair, modification, or replacement is required.

- Collaborates with Production and Engineering to develop improvements in parts or changes in operation or maintenance to reduce setup time or extend tool life. 

- Must be able to trouble shoot and remedy the situation by designing, repairing, or fabricating the necessary parts in the most efficient manner to minimize downtime and restore production.

- Set up and operate a wide variety of manually controlled equipment, including mills, lathes, surface grinders and drill presses.

- Operate and program 2 axis NC/CNC machines. 

- Make appropriate adjustments necessary to the machine, tooling and/or program to produce the highest quality parts.

- Must have a thorough understanding of applied metrology to insure the accuracy of the tools being made. 

- Must be able to work from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions. 

- Must have the ability to work independently, have strong technical mathematics skills, and be capable of doing work that requires a high level of concentration. 

- Maintain work area in a safe and professional manner.

- Clean, maintain, and adjust machine tools to maximize operating reliability, precision, and equipment life. 

- Maintain safe working habits and maintain good housekeeping throughout the shop.

- Comply with all safety training and procedures as required by our occupational health and safety management systems. 

- Understand and comply with our ISO 14001 standards and environmental management systems. 

- Assists and trains other tool makers as necessary. 

- Train operators and maintenance workers in proper operation and handling of machine tooling to prevent damage or unnecessary wear.

- Work with engineering and tool designers on projects for production improvement.

- Work with computers for internal communications and for assisting with global tool room support.

- Auto CAD and CAD/CAM experience is a plus.

 

Qualifications:

- Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.

- Completion of a formal school and apprenticeship program in tool making or tool/die making. - Five years of experience in tool and/or die making.

- Requires a thorough knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures.

- Must have ability to read and interpret complex assembly and machine drawings and to make average to complicated arithmetic and trigonometric calculations.

- Requires a working knowledge of NC/CNC programming.

- Must have a thorough understanding of applied metrology to insure the accuracy of the tools being made.
