Video Headend and Hub Operations Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position is responsible for equipment installation & maintenance, system integration, system monitoring, system testing and specialized technical support of the Master Video Headed and Hub site and related FTTP access elements used in the Cinergy Metro Network.

 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUCDE:

·  Ensure proper system operation including the quality testing, reliability and productive uses of off-air towers, satellite earth station and all headend and hub site equipment

·  Follow company policies and procedures for troubleshooting and testing, routine and periodic maintenance of off-air towers, satellite earth station and all headend and hub site equipment

·  Act as, the TIC (Technician In Charge) for both headend and hub site when needed

·  Participates in new and/or ongoing project planning, equipment evaluation,

installation and acceptance testing as required by management

·  Maintain all requisite equipment activation, equipment acceptance testing, equipment maintenance, return for repair material authorizations and system proof-of performance records

·  Function as technical resource to management and other departments as needed

·  Participate in an on-call rotation and assist others who are on call

·  Must be able to prioritize work task and maintain high standards

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

·  Understanding of core analog and digital video concepts as it relates to FTTP networks

·  Understanding of RF video concepts such as IF, VSB, 8-VSB, QPSK, QAM

·  Understanding of IP Network concepts as they apply to command and control and digital video transport

·  Understanding of digital video network control systems and transmission network monitoring systems

·  Understanding of core video applications such as EAS, IPG, IPPV, DVR, DPI, HDTV, CableCARDS and VOD

·  Experience in the operation of “HFC” headend

·  Experience using both analog and digital video test equipment used in a traditional head end environment.

·  Familiarity with fiber architecture test and measurement equipment and design theory

·  Familiarity with measuring various video distortion to validate the end-to-end video performance in a fiber architecture

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

·  Associate Degree in Electronics or Computer Science or at least 8 years cable television or telecommunications technical experience with at least 3 years as an Advanced Technician or Broadband Communications Technician

·  Successful completion of SCTE Broadband Communications Technician or NCTI Advanced Technician course

·  Must have good computer and software skills including word processing and spreadsheets and the ability to read and interpret network diagrams

·  Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
