REPORTS TO: Manager, DBA Mid-Tier Services, TS

SALARY/BENEFITS: Competitive Salary plus bonus. Annual benefit package valued at $22,986. This is a salary band 29-31.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for providing leadership in database technologies, as well as coaching and mentoring team members. Understands current data architecture and provides leadership in development of future architecture keeping industry trends in mind as well as the following:

•Reviews and enforces adherence to the BNSF Architecture, as well as database design and usage standards.

•Participates in the development and maintenance of BNSF's enterprise information model.

•Understands database high availability technologies and guides BNSF in implementing appropriate solutions.

•Understands database audit requirements and helps implement proper security in all database environments. Also, helps implement appropriate audit tools.

•Performance tuning: possesses knowledge of complete application development life cycle and is able to identify and fix performance issues in multiple database environments.

•Provides support in database usage, and database performance. Monitors production databases. Investigates database problems and resolves.

•Responsible for automating standard tasks.

•Understands replication and ETL technologies and supports appropriate tool administration.

•Quickly learns new technologies to support enterprise initiatives.

•Designs and builds simple to complex database structures from data models.

•Facilitates formal and informal discussions to support database designs. Conducts design reviews as required to ensure database design meets application requirements.

•Designs, maintains, documents and executes database utilities to provide information regarding database activity.

•Completes assigned special projects.

•Remains current on rapidly changing technology, defines database standards and seeds appropriate application at BNSF. Enhances professional skill currency and proficiency.

•Excellent communication.

•Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: •Candidate usually has a B.S. degree •Five or more years experience as DBA in multiple database platforms - DB2/UDB, and Oracle on AIX, and SQL Server on Windows. •Two or more years of experience in replication/ETL tool administration – Informatica, or similar. •Experience in database/application performance tuning and monitoring tools. •Experience in database problem identification, problem diagnosis and resolution. •Experience in building data architecture models and enforcing enterprise architecture standards and guidelines. •Experience in design reviews, requirements gathering and platform decision making. •Functional experience in multi-tiered application design and implementation is required. •Functional experience in the development of railroad application systems would be desirable. •Candidate has excellent communication – ability to expalin a technical problem to management. •Candidate is a team player. Shares knowledge. Coaches team members. Able to work in high performaing teams and deliver under pressure situations.
