General Purpose of Job:

The Auditor authorizes payment on clients’ freight bills by comparing what is presented by the carrier to what was agreed to by the customers.  This applies to all modes of transportation and both EDI and paper billings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

Ø  Auditing freight bills

o Must be able to read and interpret discount, rules, and rate tariffs and contracts and understand how they affect each other.  Must be proficient in using the National Motor Freight Classification in classifying freight.  Must be able to utilize all other forms of rating information to correctly audit the freight bills.

Ø  Using carriers’ computerized rating programs

o Must be able to open the correct rating software and use it to calculate charges on a freight bill.

Ø  Obtaining and filing rate information

o Must be able to procure rate information independently so the most current information is on file.  Must be able to file this information in an organized manner for each customer the position is responsible for.

Ø  Customer contact, physically, verbally and in written format

o Must be able to contact customers for direction and to give advice in a professional manner.  Phone, e-mail, and letters are all used to communicate with customers.   

Ø  Attend and contribute to scheduled Departmental  Meetings

Ø  Attend and participate in client and/or carrier meetings as necessary

 

  Qualification Requirements:

Previous Work Experience:

Normally three to nine months of previous work experience is required to meet job standards.

 

Education or Experience:

This position must possess a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to nine months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Language and Communication Skills:

The Auditor must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  This position will write routine reports and correspondence.  The Auditor will speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:

This position will calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  The Auditor will apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry during job duties.

 

Reasoning Ability:

This position requires a commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  The employee will deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

This position requires no responsibility for the work of others, but may occasionally direct one or two helpers in semi-complex tasks.

This position occasionally has access confidential data where the full importance is apparent and where disclosure may have an adverse effect on the Company’s external or internal affairs.

This position requires frequent contacts within the Company and frequent contacts outside of the company. 

 

  Independent Function and Judgment:

Work is performed in accordance with specific procedures but the employee must set priorities, organize and make occasional exceptions.

 

  Analytical Ability Required to Gather and Interpret Data:

Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and interpret in situations where the problems are somewhat complex.

  On-the-Job Experience:

 To attain satisfactory performance standards under normal supervision three months to one year of experience on the job is normally required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects.  The employee will stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently push buttons, answer phone, and handle materials or parts weighing up to 5 pounds.  This position will perform the job sitting or with intermittent standing walking.  The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud.

 

Vision requirements include close vision with clear vision, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus to bring a job into sharp focus.  This position may experience a moderate level of visual fatigue due to the frequent interaction with computers.  Safety:Equipment and Related Materials:

The employee has a moderate level of responsibility for the equipment and materials used, the value of which is normally under $2,500.

 

Safety of Others:

Little caution or attention is required to prevent injury to other workers.

 

Associated Hazards:

The employee is not likely to have accidents and/or health hazards.  It is possible that the employee will receive minor injuries such as bruises, cuts, and burns, scratches or sprains.

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

No PPE is require, however office furniture is addressed for any ergonomic related concerns.

 Other Requirements of the Job:

  Proficiency in certain mechanical or technical procedures or processes may be required. 

Computer Proficiency:  Intermediate proficiency on e-mail, spreadsheet and word processing software required; must be able to view, read, and send e-mail; create, edit and print basic spreadsheets; and create, edit, and print documents. 

 

This position requires teamwork and personal interaction with others and supervisors.
