Director, Manufacturing Operations
REPORTS TO: EVP, Sales and Operations
JOB OBJECTIVES:
The Director of Manufacturing Management manages multiple functions on tier 1 manufacturing partners including manufacturing production management, vendor qualification and management, vendor contract negotiations, demand planning, inventory planning, procurement, vendor quality assurance, and production planning. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage and otherwise provide leadership, direction and oversight for supply chain activities including:
1) Supplier Management / Purchasing
· Manage overall supplier relationships and supplier performance. This includes CM and component suppliers.
· Negotiates vendor contracts of strategic and critical importance to the company. Strong experience negotiating strategic partnerships is critical for this role.
· Understand supplier capabilities, including capacity, production technology, roadmaps, automation, and growth projections.
· Evaluate the technical capabilities of key suppliers to reduce company risk and conduct competitive bidding and pricing analysis to ensure best value
· Create sourcing strategies and execution plans optimizing the logistics of goods and services from suppliers while maintaining sufficient supplier diversity.
· Manage Purchasing department and execution of purchase order placements
· Resolve product shortage issues with Sales and prioritize production and product allocation
· Evaluate supplier performance for timeliness of delivery and completeness of order - address any resulting issues
2) Product Quality / Manufacturing
· Provide oversight and direction for quality assurance (at supplier and upon receipt) to ensure product quality and implement processes to ensure required quality levels
· Drive process improvement within suppliers. Requires deep understanding of electronics assembly operations in high reliability environments.
· Ensure compliance with international Green Regulations
· Oversees and manages manufacturing test resources and processes. Must have experience in RF Electronics production test environments.
3) NPI/Lifecycle Planning
· Manage the supply chain to ensure smooth introduction of new products into the CM.
· Work with Marketing, Sales and Finance to develop and implement effective inventory management and disposition strategies (e.g., phased introduction of product improvements)
· Ensure products are driven to EOL with zero obsolescence.
4) Other
· Ensure alignment with other functional groups.
· Establish performance indicators to monitor the supply chain for optimal resource utilization and minimum total cost
· Responsible to perform “ad hoc” analysis and reporting, as required
Experience:
· Strong supply chain planning, purchasing and production background
· Experienced in the sourcing of consumer electronics required
· Mid-volume, high quality oriented manufacturing.
· Managed large volume OEM agreements
· Negotiated strategic supplier agreements in low leverage positions
· Broad based experience in all related areas (production, quality, materials management, logistics, test engineering, mfg engineering, NPI,)
· Managed ISO programs
· Hands on experience with ERP systems
· Successfully implemented quality improvement programs and processes
· Proven track record of constantly reducing product cost
· Built successful and effective organizations – both small and large
· Experienced in international operations, specifically Far East contract manufacturing operations
· Built complex, global material logistics operations
· Demonstrated success in managing and improving all manufacturing processes
· Must have demonstrated the ability to “roll up the sleeves” when needed while at the same time demonstrated the ability to think strategically for long term company success
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree or higher in operations management, industrial engineering, logistics or related fields or equivalent related experience.
· Minimum of 10 years' purchasing, supply chain or inventory management, with experience in developing and executing global supply chains.
· General knowledge of manufacturing business activities and specific knowledge and experience with ERP, systems required.
· Previous experience working with Asian suppliers required.
· Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, implementing key performance measures, and motivating/directing teams.
· Demonstrated ability with technical, planning, analytical and financial disciplines.
· Demonstrated ability to quickly interpret, analyze, and apply complex data
· Excellent communications ability, both written and verbal.
· Team player with strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
· Able to work in a fluid and dynamic, high growth environment.
· Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally to manage vendors and suppliers.
