Mechanical Systems Engineer
Description:Engineering support for mechanical systems: engines, hydraulics, air, and mechanic structural on all Work Equipment machines. Establish standards and specifications for components, new and rebuilt equipment and field modifcations for machines. Developing work specifications for BPRS mechanical and hydraulic system modifications. Justifying work equipment modifications using cost / benefit analyses. Writing modification instructions, creating prints, and drawings. Developing and providing craft employees with modification application training. Prototyping modification applications. Developing modification material lists. Identifying/Procuring tooling required to perform equipment modifications. Auditing modification standardization. Tracking performance of modifications and helping validate economic returns. Working with P&M and Suppliers to improve parts quality, cost saving initiatives, approving of alternative suppliers and warranty evaluations. Help with the development of a Quality Assurance program and development defined work processes. Verifying documentation accuracy. Ensuring proper and best hardware/fastener, fittings, hose, gaskets, etc are used; establish torque requirements and ensure they are used and maintained. Creating CAD drawings of components built by fabricators to open the bid processDocumenting rebuilds for standardization. Creating prints for manuals and work instructions. Providing technical assistance to mechanics and supervisors. Reduce engine replacement expense.Reduced modification rework (labor and material). Reduced labor associated with the trial and error field engineering that is currently employed. Enhanced equipment safety. Systems and components that meet rigid engineering standards. Increased floor supervision. Managers can return to supervision and allow engineering to be performed by the shop engineer. Improved material quality. Find alternative source for components and parts. Reduced outside party consultation expenses. Reduced equipment dwell. Shop Engineer is available to go out on the shop floor for consultations.Better components results in less leaks and down time (benefits will go up as more machines are overhauled/fixed). Design permanent fixes instead of temporary repairs. Investigate systemic component failures and develop fixes via better components, better procedure or better installations. Develop and maintain procurement specifications for new machines and re-conditioned components. Develop reclamation standards and procedures for components rebuilt at BPRS.
