Transportation Analyst

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the timely and efficient movement of merchandise, fixtures, and supplies from vendors to retail stores. Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws. The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned: Oversee the movement of merchandise from vendors to retail stores. Develop the best shipping method and select the best shipping carrier to move merchandise from vendor to retail store. Coordinate the shipping and delivery dates of merchandise to distribution centers and retail stores. Analyze the distribution network and shipping patterns of multiple vendors.  Develop working relationships with vendors, carriers, and third party providers to ensure timely and accurate shipping of merchandise. Expedite the movement and receipt of advertising, promotional, plan-o-gram, planner, and out-of-stock goods and communicate the status of each to Category Management and Traffic Managers. Negotiate rates with carriers to obtain the most cost-effective transportation price. Maintain and expand the back-haul program that oversees the use of private fleet trucks to pick up merchandise from a vendor and deliver it to the distribution centers. Monitor updates to Expeditors Cargo Management System (ECMS) transactions. Interact with the Carpenter Shop with regard to in-bound and out-bound shipping and delivery loads. Oversee the transportation of merchandise to the trade show, store relocations and closures, and other events as required. Develop seasonal load plans that contain carrier selection, delivery schedule, and cost. The following qualities are required: Ability to preserve confidentiality of information. Accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects. Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes. Ability to work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and/or FreightLogic and ECMS. Ability to interact with a large number of associates working in various levels of the Company.   Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business and/or Logistics; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
