Position Title: Branch Manager III (Industrial Hygiene)
Job Description Purpose: Under guidance of the Safety Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring that all areas within ASG-KU are in compliance with regulatory requirements pertaining to Industrial Hygiene and Radiation Safety. Advises the Safety Manager, Senior Management and DOD officials on IH and Radiation Safety issues. Types of Positions reporting directly: Industrial Hygienist Specialists, Administrative Assistant, IH Associates Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Directs a professional team encompassing a wide range of functions within the discipline:
a. Interviews, selects and places candidates into open positions.
b. Evaluates staff, comparing objectives and achievements in the assessment.
c. Coaches employees in their professional career development and process improvements.
d. Issues discipline whenever required.
e. Recommends termination or contract non-renewal when appropriate.
2. Plans and manages the ASG-KU Industrial Hygiene and Radiation Safety functions per the CSSC-K Scope of Work.
3. Recognizes, evaluates, recommends and implements policies and procedures for monitoring and preventing chemical, biological, physical hazards, and diseases from occurring within the ASG-KU AOR.
4. Develops and maintains IH Baseline and Annual Survey schedules for all operations with ASG-KU.
5. Reviews and incorporates, as appropriate, health standards originated by DOD, DOE, NRC, EPA, and MSHA.
6. Analyzes sampling results, compares to establish Permissible Exposure Limits, and determines degree of risk to worker health.
7. Ensures that quality control measures are in place to monitor regulatory compliance.
8. Responsible for making recommendations and presentations to senior management and government/DOD officials based on accepted industrial hygiene methodology and regulatory requirements.
9. Maintains up-to-date information and knowledge on new developments in the areas of Industrial Hygiene and Radiation Safety. Seeks out best practices within the industry and internationally to ensure Best Management Practice remedial action recommendations are presented.
10. Ensures the maintenance of relevant files and records.
11. Co-ordinates with Army Safety so that the standards are in line with US Army procedures and regulations.
12. Establishes and maintains certification requirements for branch employees.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Education: M.S. degree in Industrial Hygiene or related discipline with approximately 6 years experience or B.S. degree in safety or related discipline with approximately 8 years experience. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required.
2. Experience: Requires approximately 7 years of industrial hygiene work experience, preferably in a military environment. At least 3 years must have been in a managerial or supervisory position.
3. Specialized Knowledge:
a. Must have extensive knowledge of industrial hygiene practices and procedures, including such things as baseline surveys, radiation and respiratory protection, OSHA standards, US Army safety and industrial hygiene regulations, and OEBGD.
b. Must have a working knowledge of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a department of technically proficient individuals.
4. Skills:
a. Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills.
b. Must be able to exercise sound business judgment in order to set direction and establish priorities.
c. Requires excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.
d. Requires advanced verbal and written communications skills in English, in addition to effective interpersonal skills.
e. Requires excellent analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyze data, and Excel spreadsheet proficiency.
f. Requires exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
g. Must be able to prepare PowerPoint presentations.
h. Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
i. Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment, with an ability to understand the effect of decisions overall in the company.
j. Must be able to handle company information with confidentiality and discretion.
5. Equipment and Applications:
a. Must be able to use a desktop and laptop computer with ease.
b. Must be able to use presentation materials effectively.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
1. Primary office environment, but occasional field operations with exposure to harsh weather climate of extreme heat and dust.
2. Office environment. 48 hour work week. Overtime is mission dependant.
3. Must have professional appearance, consistent with local customs.
