RESPONSIBILITIES:
At the plant level, functions independently and productively to direct the design, development and implementation of all manufacturing engineering projects. Plans, directs and coordinates staff and activities of the manufacturing engineering and maintenance functions. Has overall project approval including budgets, deadlines and personnel actions, and ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.
Identifies and develops engineering process technology for engineering excellence, including implementation of preventive maintenance processes & troubleshooting. Maximizes use of existing equipment with regard to quality, reliability, speed, safety, and cost. Develops new equipment for standard and non-standard unit process and new processes and equipment for new technologies.
Ensures that corporate directives are uniformly understood and properly interpreted, implemented, and administered by:
- Facilitating the sharing of information with counterparts at other membrane divisions and outside division manufacturing plants.
- Providing critical project leadership, estimate completion timelines, staffing requirements, and related financial budgets.
Maximizes production capacities in the most cost effective way, subject to product quality and process safety, by:
- Facilitating cooperation between facilities, manufacturing engineering, and maintenances functional personnel to work as a team to achieve objectives
- Directing the analysis of the manufacturing process, including the sequence of operations and performance of equipment, design and installation or integrated systems of personnel, materials, machinery and equipment for maximum efficiency and safety
- Overseeing the layout of plant, warehouse, office and other facilities and the determination of requirements for procurement, layout and location of machinery and equipment
Oversees approximately 25 exempt and non-exempt employees, including at least one subordinate Manager. Typical subordinate functions supervised directly or indirectly, include:
- Supervision of personnel working on the maintenance of buildings / grounds, production machinery and electrical equipment
- Investigation, analysis, and determination of the overall advantage of requests of new facilities and equipment, rearranging existing facilities, and modifying, repairing, or scrapping of machinery and equipment
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated leadership of manufacturing engineering and maintenance functions with ten years of related experience.
- Knowledge of facilities and engineering planning, systems design and analysis, work design and quality control consistent with five to eight years as a manager.
- B.S. in an Engineering discipline and PE designation (Professional Engineer from NCEES).

- Capable of clearly defining appropriate technical approaches and solutions to the most mission critical challenges
- Able to define critical project criteria to ensure project completion
- Established leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and negotiate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with sensitivity to other cultures in order to successfully achieve outcomes.
- Conversational communication skills in Japanese.
